چکیده

In multi-access wireless communication networks, cochannel interference and timing varying nature of the channel are two important detrimental effects to reduce the network throughput. Adaptive modulation techniques have the potential to substantially increase the spectrum efficiency by providing the users with different levels of throughput according to the channel conditions. In this paper, we study how to adaptively allocate each user’s throughput in the multi-access networks. We optimize the network throughput, while each user’s time average throughput is kept as a constant to ensure the fairness. We solve the problem in two steps. First we find the throughput range that each user can select at different time to ensure the fairness. Second we find the best throughput allocation to different users at each time to generate the maximum overall throughput. From the simulation results, it shows that our scheme increases overall network throughput about 10%, compared with the previous works.

Throughput fairness and efficiency of link adaptation techniques in wireless networks

Link adaptation techniques aim to maximise the quality of service and resource utilisation in wireless networks. However, fairness must be taken into consideration, particularly, in low-mobility environments where the channel dynamic variation is small. The authors propose and analyse three link adaptation techniques [using joint power control (PC) and adaptive coding and modulation (ACM)] for ...

Distributed Adaptive Scheduling for Finite Horizon in Wireless Ad hoc Networks

A cooperative ratio-based scheduling scheme with minimal signaling that enhances network throughput and fairness in a wireless ad hoc network is presented in this paper. Throughput maximization problem under fairness constraint in a finite horizon is formulated as a novel multiwindow optimization problem. Through analysis users’ thresholds are shown to be time variant for throughput maximizatio...

Fairness Enhancement of Link Adaptation Techniques in Wireless Access Networks

Link adaptation techniques, such as power control and adaptive coding and modulation, aim at maximizing the throughput in wireless networks while maintaining the signal quality in terms of the signal to interference ratio. However, fair resource allocation among different users must be taken into consideration, particularly in fixed broadband wireless access networks. The low/no mobility of use...

Asymptotic Close to Optimal Resource Allocation in Centralized Multi-band Wireless Networks

This paper concerns sub-channel allocation in multi-user wireless networks with a view to increasing the network throughput. It is assumed there are some sub-channels to be equally divided among active links, such that the total sum rate increases, where it is assumed each link is subject to a maximum transmit power constraint. This problem is found to be a non-convex optimization problem and i...

Maximization of System Throughput Subject to Access Time Fairness Constraints in Multi-Rate 802.11 WLANs

In the field of wireless communications, it is difficult to achieve good performance and fairness simultaneously, especially in advanced wireless local area networks (LANs), such as 802.11a/b/g, with multi-rate modulation. Although the long-term equal access probability results in throughput fairness, there is considerable performance degradation and unfair channel access time. We address the p...
